    Default Carpenter Needed

    Hi Gents,

I'm on the hunt for a good carpenter who is reasonably priced to take up a small amount of floating floor, reduce it's thickness (to suit the thickness of new tiles) via planing or suitable method from 16mm to 10mm. It will then need to be replaced but cut to shape (half round) to suit the new tiles. Roughly 10-15 boards. Can provide photo to anyone interested.

    Thanks

I think you will bugger your floor trying to do this. I would be building up the surface under the tiles and feathering it out.

Easyier to put a layer of hardiboard under the tiles to build them up. If it can't be done that way then you need to speak to a floor sander and get them to sand it down in situ before refinishing it, I think normal sanding usually removes about 2mm?

The comment to feather the underside of the floating floor came from a tiler and I'm sure if I had a carpenter look at this he would say the floor should be raised so the tiles meet the top of the wood floor.

I have a tiler coming around tomorrow and so I'll ask him what should be done and see what his thoughts on raising the floor to bring the tiles up.

I don't think it would hurt to put down a screed of floor leveling compound to raise the floor for the tiles.

I will see tomorrow and let you know.

    Thanks
