Three large Elm trees for removal - how to transport them?
Hi all,
I've been recently told of 3x elms and 3x sheoaks that are being cut down in North Melbourne. The logs themselves will be massive (ranging from 30cm diameter up to 80cm for the elms), and I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for transport to storage for these?
Any contacts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steven.

I have found that the elm (both English & Golden) and banksia logs are very prone to splitting during drying; even using end grain sealers. My english elm was stored inside a shed and the golden elm outside. Proper wax style end grain sealers were unavailable locally so I used a water based latex style concrete water tank sealer. Was ok on the tank but didn't stop the elm splitting with the pieces stored outside also getting dry rot and spalting. The banksia was also stored inside a shed and split. Several pieces that I had end sealed with the last of my wax style end sealer didn't split.
As to transport, a member of the forum goes by the name of Acco. He has a crane truck.
Best of luck
Ken

Google "logging choker," it's the specialized bit of cable used in the logging industry for moving logs.
Piece of serious chain and a big hook is OK but unreliable in the long term.
