Help
I am a novic ++++ and brought myself an australian cedar dressing table to do up. The item is structurally excellent. I have just finished cleaning it and it looked great, although the finish remained dull. however i have now had an accident and spilled metho on the finish of the top of the dresser. i have wipe it but but off cause it has taken off the shellack and left terrible strick marks. what is the best way forward. (sorry for the spelling) Thankyou

Use 0000 steel wool and metho to take all the shellac off the top. Keep mopping it up with a paper towel. Don't get too enthusiastic with the steel wool. When you've cleaned it all up, re-finish with a number of coats of shellac wiped on with a pad. Or you could go the full French polish route if you wish, but it's a lot more work I think - never done it myself.
