New to sydney, need some pointers to finding work!!
hello there, ive just arived in sydney to live fulltime. i have been working with wood in some way for the past 7 years from designing & making furniture to hanging doors, i spent 3 years doing a furniture making course back home in IRE and i really want to stick with a woodworking career here in sydney but all the jobs going seem to be with kitchen manufacturing co.s and the like, using some sort of manufactured board and limited solid woods. I was just hoping that someone here might be able to help me out or point me in the right direction. thanks for any help, dave.

Yes I think you're right about where the bulk of advertised woodworking jobs are. Don't despair, a lot of the smaller specialised outfits working with " real wood", that may suit you better are more likely to respond to a direct approach. I would go to retailers, web sites etc and find out who produces the styles of work you like and then approach them directly. ? Jimmy Possum chairs and tables, there's a fine table manufacturer around Glebe. Ask the furniture restorers, antique shops etc and you're bound to get leads.
Good luck.
