What do you suggest

I'm in the process of putting a patio up next to a pool area.
To set the area off nicely I thought I'd deck underneath although this will be over stamped concrete and not totally necessary.
The total area is about 45 m2 so I'm looking to cut costs.
The idea I had was a nice area near a garden bed where I could just put down a square area about 3.6m X 3.6m and leave the rest concrete.
On this "raised deck" I was going to put in a built in BBQ maybe surrounded by built in seating area.
It was going to be rafters just sitting on the concrete with decking nailed on, until I saw this photo. (hopefuuly attached)

With this I was going to build a "box" of 200mmx50mm X 3.5m and put the "slats inside.
The question is what size do you reckon the slats should be (and most economical) to buy.
I see an add in a Bunning Catologue for treated pine decking 90x22 at $2.20/m. Would this be suitable if I riped it in half and then turned on edge??

I'm only a bush carpenter so any advice is appreciated

seems like an awful waste of timber, turning it on its side only covers 45mm at best where as one piece flat covers 90mm.....
If cost is a factor then use hardwood joists .....200 x 50 treated pine to form the "box", and have each rail 350mm apart for strength .....if you are only a "bush" chippy .....then I would suggest joist hangers on either side would make it easier for you and bolt them into the 200x50mm with coach bolts .....on the opposing side to the joist hangers, cut in a rebate into the 200 x 50, .....depth and width of 20mm so the lip of the decking sits inside (about 20mm).....then you will have something to nail into without then need to support it underneath (saves timber).....I would do a sketch for ya .....but I just downloaded sketchup and I am pretty crappy with it ..LOL...but I think you get my drift ...good luck with it

If you have the stamped conc why not wait til you have the funds to do it right .....Once its done its unlikely you'll come back and make it any better later
