Hidden in the piles at Redwood machinery
I was there today for work - he's still there too, although it looks a little less cluttered. I spotted a couple of interesting things there though
IMG_0031s.jpg IMG_0032s.jpg IMG_0033s.jpg
The radial arm is an Arboga but it's a small one (arm looks to be only about 1.5m long?). Sadly this one has been sitting in the weather but may be able to be saved. I saw a geared head arboga drill in the shed too.
The marble slab is around 800 square. It has been polished and is not too thick so is probably headstone material but as a mark out plate may do.
Last is a Herbert surface grinder - this is stored under cover - mag chuck looks to be around 12x6"
For those not familiar with the place, it's one of those places with piles of stuff. I suspect that there are places in the yard that haven't been trodden with a human foot for years.

Hmmm - wonder if they'd scrap out the Arboga. I could do with a spare drilling head as mine isn't the best. Works, but it has issues.
That machine is basically the same as mine except it has a longer arm - mine is 600mm, that one looks 750mm or maybe 900mm. A good useful size if everything works, though it does look like the table is missing if it's not under that green box.

The table is there under the box.

Hi Michael,
Any heat treatment ovens hidden in there?
That arboga is the same as the one wdc? Wcd? Sold last year.
Cheers,

Thanks for the photo's.
He's a long time closing down
But, that's OK. When he's gone we (in SA) are all gunna be stuffed, because there's only the big machinery players left.
I'm not game to go into some areas of Redwood, looks like a death trap the way the stuffs stacked on top of everything - very badly.
Always interesting.

Hi Rob
Are you talking about the Machinery place on the corner of Wingfield and Cormack Rds, they are the only other one I know of?
Kryn[/QUOTE]
Redwood Machinery is on Main South Rd at Croydon, opposite the Polonia Reserve.
Heading north, go over Torrens Road and it's on the left about 1/2 km past the bend.
Bought a lot of stuff from them over the years, and prices are generally good. They don't sell rubbish.
They definitely have the cheapest (and excellent quality) sanding belts in Adelaide - by a country mile.
Also handy as they have a good range of the older style button type air fittings which I use.
Overall it's a good shop and always interesting to wander around.
EDIT for Gavin : stuffed if I know how they get some of the big heavy gear out of the shop without killing any one.
It's not OH&S compliant from my observations.
It's one of those places where the policy seems to be that if you cant fit it at ground level, you can always go up - and they sure do.

Sorry - didn't see any. Heat treatment in Adelaide is usually something that is subbed out to specialist companies so I wouldn't expect them to show up in a place like this.
Without asking my boss about this, we have our factory just a few k's away. If someone wanted to buy the drill or grinder and needed to park it for a few weeks pending arranging transport or space to put it, I could probably store it for you (might only be under the shipping canopy, but it would be out of the rain at least)

I know where Redwood's are, there is/was another on the corner of Wingfield and Cormack Rds. (used to be a skin works) deals only in second hand machinery/equipment, has a lot of junk, (the type that could come in handy one day) no new stuff, that was 7-8 years ago!!

Yes, he was still there last time I was down that way.
Only open about three days a week now.
Mainly machinery. No tooling.
Expensive.

Back there today.
The Arboga has something like 750mm horizontal travel. From the centre of the column to the tip of the boom is 1.1m. As Peter says, a handy size. It's another machine that if I had the space I'd love to have (even if I haven't got a use for it).
Price guide - around $1500.

IMHO, given the amount of rust etc visible on that machine and the fact it's in the weather, it's grossly overpriced.
Interesting though - I've seen a few with the 600mm radial arm like mine but that's the first 750mm one I've ever seen.
If you had it, you'd find uses for it. It's got power feed strong enough to drive big drill bits, 3 different feed speeds and trip stops to disengage the feed at a specified depth. When I was making all the cabinet doors for my kitchen I set up a Forstner bit in mine, swivelled the arm out over a work platform I'd made and bored all the hinge recesses in the doors. Saved a lot of work.
X-Y coordinate drilling on big workpieces is another use. You mark out & centre punch all the hole locations then position the workpiece under the arm & bolt it down. Lots easier to move the drill head over the centre-pop than sliding maybe 100 kg of workpiece under the drill head.

He doesn't respond well to offers either. The older guy who used to work there would negotiate a bit but he's long gone.
