Clear Vue installation
The shed build is underway (making a tin garage a bit more habitable). I am lining the shed with 12mil. ply and R4.0 insulation and I have put together a stand for the cyclone but unfortunately disaster struck a few nights ago when my son-in-law and I attempted to put the motor and impeller unit on top of the stand. For some reason as we were pushing the unit to the middle of the stand it got out of alignment and the unit hit the deck two metres below. With that much weight behind it, the noise as it hit the concrete was bloody loud only topped by my swearing. The upshot of it all is that I am waiting for a new impeller from America because the original one ended up rather twisted.
I have to thank Chris Parks for assistance with my questions before the disaster and sorting out the mess afterwards.
The only good thing was that the third electrician I contacted came up with some good ideas for the electrical work and a very reasonable quote.
Cheers,
Safari

Ouch ...
We all get these little tests of character occasionally. Good luck with the new impeller.
Please keep us posted.

That's too bad.
Sorry to hear about that.
Hope it works out for you.

Hi Safari I spoke to Chris today about my CV1800 installation which reached a stage of completion on the weekend. I heard about your unfortunate accident which is a real PITA. I must admit I was nervous about lifting the heavy motor and impeller and decided to build a supporting tower with a secure platform....... to avoid such a catastrophe.
Even with two People lifting the motor assembly it is not easy!
I didn't like the CV wall mounting approach for a number of reasons including lack of flexibility for final positioning.
I live in Ivanhoe so there may be mutual benefits in sourcing ductwork, noise reduction final optimisation etc. Let me know if you'd like to have a chat.

Well I am almost back on track after Chris came to the rescue and quickly arranged for a new impeller to be shipped from America.
I decided to Use John Samual's idea for exhaust suppression but found it impossible to get the 8" HVAC piping onto the 8 3/4" outlet so after a suggestion from my wife I got a plastic bucket and cut the bottom off and fed it onto the pipe and used duct tape to secure the HVAC to the end of the bucket. It was then jammed into the exhaust opening and again secured with duct tape. There is only a 2mm lip so I thought that would be OK. ( see first photo)
The larger 12" HVAC was then fed onto the piping and secured. ( Second photo ) I am thinking of building a box around this piping and the impeller housing and filling it with insulation material in an attempt to further reduce the sound.
The third photo shows the complete unit almost ready for the intake ducting.
The electrician was here this afternoon and completed the wiring to the motor. He said "lets flip the switch and see if it works". So we all stepped back in case the shed took off but nothing happened!! The electrician checked the motor connection and found that there was in fact 240 volts at the motor and is at a loss. He is going to ring Teco tomorrow and hopefully get some answers.
With all the dramas I have had I am not sure I am cut out to assemble kits like this but I am assured it will all be worth it in the end.
Cheers

Looking good!
Just a word of warning. My sparky fouled up the installation. He left the motor wired for star (415V) instead of delta (240V). Worth checking, although it won't be the cause of the motor not running.
Please keep us posted.

Chin up Dave the wait is worth it, I am sure the electrical is only a minor hitch.

Sorry to hear of your problem John. My sparky fortunately said he wouldn't proceed until he had more info.
Chris, from all the reports of owners I am sure it will be worth it. I am yet to see any negative comment about the performance.

David,
I'm sure you will love it to death. Like you, I've never heard a negative comment from an owner. Six months ago I had a dust bowl. Now I breathe clean air and I am not wading through dust and shavings.
Not only was the Clear Vue the best unit available, but also it was cheaper than the alternatives I looked at and it had the smallest footprint.
At the risk of being boring and repetitive, do take the time to work through your machine ports and modify them to 150 mm. It makes a big difference ... sometimes huge. For a long time my dirtiest machines were the linisher and the drop saw. Now they are exceptionally clean.

Hi Warmtone. I got it from The retail heating and cooling firm that supplied our air conditioner. Unfortunately they do not supply to people off the street. I will give them a ring tomorrow and ask them where you might get some.

The Clearvue is now running after help from NCArcher and Chris (thanks guys) and everything seems to check out. With the HVAC exhaust ducting in place it is still quite noisy so I will proceed with more insulation until I get the noise down to a more comfortable level.
At this stage I can't check the noise levels because I don't have a meter.

Safari,
Android phones can download a free app that is a sound meter. My guess is that other phones have a similar app.

Thanks John , We are slow at updating technology so we don't have that sort of phone although we were looking at them last week with a view to upgrading.
