Default Tap Washers and High Water Pressure

    Hi guys and gals -

I live pretty close to the local water tower, and the pressure in the mains is pretty high.

Its good for just about everything I do, but the missus can't turn off the taps hard enough (or undo the taps I turn off) - consequently she tends to leave dripping taps a lot of the time.

I've tried turning the mains tap almost to off - this obviously reduces the amount of water coming through but not the pessure.

The kitchen and bathroom vanity use lever type mixers, which turn off without a problem, and don't leak - but all other taps round the housedrip if not turned off HARD.

    Any solutions greatly appreciated!

Contact your local plumber and have a pressure reduction device fitted into the main inlet to your house. These are fitted to quite a lot of HW systems and are quite inexpensive.

Fit new tap washers , the type shapped like 1/2 a ball , that is a ball of rubber cut in half , they are designed for the elderly or those with arthritus etc ,

I've wondered about fitting ceramic cartridges to our taps for this reason, although I don't even know if that is possible. Has anyone done it?

We used to always have leaking taps, but since the water filter has gone in, things have settled down. I'm surprised at the amount of grit and junk that is caught in the big filter...
