Plasterboard Drill

I was surfing through Ebay the other day, and spotted a Plaster Auto Electric Screw gun. I have a ceiling to do, and possibly some walls upstairs.

They seem to go for about $100 plus postage.

Anyone know anything about them? Would it be better to hire one, buy one of these off ebay, or use my trusty Panasonic cordless drill?

You can get a GMC screw gun (without the auto feeder) from Bunnies for about $50.

Your Panasonic should be fine.

If you only have a small area to do a cordless drill will do the job.

With a cordless drill you will need to set it up so that the screws don't sink in too deep.

I have only used Markita auto screw guns and have several albeit in various states of dissrepair. So I cant comment on this particular model. I can say though these tools were a major step forward in the plastering industry. A Markita cost around $500 so the price is ok if it does the job.

When you are hanging ceilings don't screw the first few screws in all the way, 8 screws placed this way can hold up a 6m sheet. The first few screws, if counter sunk, can pull through if you relax the weight on them too early or if the sheet moves in any way. This can be a bit more tricky with a cordless drill.

I know they are a cheap imitation of the real thing, but the job is only small....

I will stick to the cordless drill then!
