Mazda 6 door remote and new key
Just rang the dealer for a new remote as the old one stopped locking the doors.
For a new key, new remote, cut the key, program to vehicle is $470.
So after getting up off the floor i spent another hour searching the web, ringing half the businesses in the country thast have anythoing to do with keys, car parts, locksd of any sort only to find out that there is no non genuine replacement for them and you have to buy from mazda.
Means i have to go back to work again just to afford a new key for the car.
Anybody else got any ideas. How much does a horse cost? can i carry the golf clubs on one of them?
Cheersregards

Calm,
I know this is probably stating the bleeding obvious but you haven't said as much so I will ask - you have checked/changed the battery and made sure there's no corrosion on the contacts?

Pulled it to bits and the contact is broken, soldered it but still wont work.
Daughter borrowed car 6 months ago and lost keys so i am using the spare set (lucky i had them) so now am down to the last set - really need a new one anyway but $470 - the mazda man said "its got a computer chip in it you know" - i told him i could buy a bloody laptop for that price.
Cheersregards

That seems somewhot over the top (to say the least).
I replaced my Mazda 6 remote when it had been broken by my son grabbing it and throwing it away and ISTR that the price was more in the $200 region. But the car was still under warranty then.Cheers

You said "Stopped locking the doors".
Does that mean it still UNlocks OK?
If so, can you just use the key manually, in the lock, turn it, to lock all the doors?
Cheers,
Andrew

You could buy a key encoder/decoder and go into business for yourself for that amount.

I agree thats a shocking rip off. The chip inside it is probably worth $1 if that , the rest is just cos they know you got to have it. Friend has a Toyota, left car at airport went on holiday. Wife lost key. Came back and had manual key, used that. Car drove 30 metres then stopped. Phoned RACV guy comes out starts car and tells him because the car runs, not his problem. Has to pay own tow truck. Its great how nice salesmen are when you are paying, but ask for one cent when you are in trouble and its another story.

I had the ignition lock bust on a Mercedes SEC coupe. I can't remember the exact price now (it happened about 5 years back) but it was $600 plus or minus for the new ignition/steering lock - I think it was $640 or so - and that's just for the part, no labour involved. I declined and pulled one out of my spares car (everyone keeps a spare Merc for parts don't they?). If that one breaks, I'll just fit a starter button, although I haven't driven that car for a couple of years.

Calm,
I got referred to a guy at the local trash and treasure market at the old Laverton drive-in. I got a new remote for my Magna plus instructions on how to tune the remote to the car for about $70 a month ago. (Mitsubishi wanted $240+ depending on how long it took them, it took me all of three minutes!!)
Going to be there this w/end I'll ask whether he does Mazda 6's. Can you PM me a picture of what the remote looks like, and I'll take the piccy with me.

I was spurred into DIY mode when Hyundai wanted $300 to make the passenger side electric window go up the last 1 cm.
Fixed it myself with 1 cent worth of metal from inside a wiring connector, plus $299.99 worth of thinking.
Remember when NO cars had remote controls? Remember when they only had ONE external lock, and the driver had to get in and do the rounds of unlocking the doors for passengers?
Cheers,
Andrew

I installed a third party remote system (reciever/decoder boad and 2 key fobs) to an inherited Pug 306 about 5 years ago after the second switch in the on key remote failed. Cost about $80 for the kit, and a bit of knowledge with the connection.
Works well, at the expense of a bulkier key ring due to the seperate transmitter, but
the car comes with and works with one remote key and one traditional style spare key, yours might require the factory key chip to be in close proximity to the ignition lock to disable immobilizer.
This link has location and colour codes for the remote locking module for various years. One wire controls locking and unlocking, grounding via 1KOhm resistor locks, direct grounding unlocks

Remote.
Hi Calm,
Ihave a Toyota Multi van & it has a Imobiliser, which went Kaput, & I was referred to a Chap in Myers Street, Geelong, & he fixed in no time flat. Charged me $23.
Not sure if that helps, but a lot of people go to this Chap, & he is around the 60 yrs. oldmark.
I'm thinking he may have a Electronics Degree.
