Water dye usage and storing

Finally I've been able to order some U-Beaut water dye and I'm wondering a few things seeing as I've never used it before. Here's hoping some of you have...

- Using it hot sounds good, but how hot is hot? Steaming? Luke warm? (Thinking kettle boiled water or in a microwave for a few seconds)

- If there is mixture left over, can it be left to cool and stored in glass jars for later use with a good shake and reheating?

- Could it be mixed into a water based polyurethane (for multiple coats) or is it too likely to leech out, be blotchy or be a poor finish somehow...or is it just a stupid idea in the first place?

Its probably not necessary to heat the dye to get it to penetrate (although I do, just using my hide glue water bath thingo.....about 80ºc).
Just stick your finger in it Kris, and you'll see how easy it penetrates

Its also fairly concentrated, so to achieve the tint you want, it may need a bit of dilution.

Agree with Noel. Use warm. Test on piece of cardboard. Probably dilute. Let dry and use a sealer over the top. Lightly sand and then apply your poly (lightly sand betwen coats). You can then wax polish over the poly. I would not recommend mixing dye with the poly. Hope this helps. John M.
