Video on Cap Iron at work
G'day Mates,
Thought I share a video which I stumbled upon in the Saw Mill Creek woodworking forum.
The video is from Yamagata University in Japan. It shows the function of the Cap Iron when planing wood in a scientific study around the 1980s.
It's quite a big download, but worth the watch before you outlay $$$ on thicker blades & cap iron.
Regards,
Gunn

Thanks very much dyno - I had not seen that.
I had heard about it, from here I think, halfway down: The Sharpening FAQ - Fads and fallacies
and pretty sure I hadn't followed the link to here: Chipbreaker Study
BTW ... I had thought of Mr Brent Beach as geeky and investigative. But he gets pretty damn adamant and opinionated by the bottom of that page there
Excellent.
Cheers,
Paul McGee
