options to fix a mouldy raked ceiling?
we have plywood panels between exposed rafters, which have been getting increasingly mouldy over last year (and esp since the Brisbane May rains).
Noticed that the mould was mainly in centre and not close to rafters;
I took a couple of roof sheets (CI) off on weekend to find that sarking was laid on top of the rafters (lays on top of ceiling panels between rafters) and under roof battens.
No insulation.
Would i be right in guessing that where the (cold) sarking lays on the panels (warmed by inside heating) there will be condensation created - hence the moudly panels?
And, any better suggestions for fixing than:
1. take off roofing iron and cut away old sarking
2. over the battens put down chicken wire then insulblanket (foil backed fibreglass mat, foil down?)
3. back on with the iron
We'd really like some decent insulation (for summer) but this would mean laying batts directly onto the ceiling panels (which i assume the chicken wire idea was aimed to avoid..) as well as the foil backed blanket. Or would this create more problems?
Thanks heaps
