Big Split in Hip Rafter Joining Ridge
Hi all,
We have recently had our tiled roof replaced with colourbond.
Once the tiles were removed it was found that one of the hip rafters ( think that is the correct name) had a split about 60cm long in it starting at the top where it joins the ridge.
According to the house plans this is a 'barap truss' design. Looks like a torsion bar system to me. Maybe it was put into too much tension!
Can anybody tell me if this looks like a major repair or could it be repaired by closing the split and bolting metal plate to each side of the beam.
Hoping somebody can shed some light on it for me.
Thanks in anticipation
