A small tribute......

Its with a heavy heart that I write this 2000th post.

Had to make the very hard decision today of sending off my closest mate of 18+ years to the next realm. 9 months ago I thought she had lived out her 9th life as she was very sick and was going downhill fast. A quick visit to the vet and some antibiotics to clear up a urinary tract infection, and she was like a new cat.

This time as she started to go downhill seemed a little more serious. Started noticing a strange limpness in the way she walked. Got slightly worse over the next few days. I was searching the internet looking for any info on what could be going on. Thought it could have been Neuropathy, which is a Diabetes related issue and can affect the nerves in the hind legs.
A possible solution to this was a muscle building Vitamin B12 Methylcobalamin. So after searching numerous Health food shops with no luck, I had to drive 55 mins to Chadstone after work to go to a specialist vitamin store who had it. $40 for 60 tablets.

It was to no avail however, as her condition worsened to the point where she lost 75% of her power to the back legs and virtually lost all balance. More searching of the internet suggested it was most likely a brain stem tumor. So from then on after a shot of cortisone from the vet for a boost, it was palliative care until today. I was doing my best to keep her going to see the Cats win the flag this weekend, but her quality of life was reducing by the day.

So off to the vet we go. Was doing OK, keeping strong, until the receptionist called out her name......as hard as I tried, just couldn't hold them friggin tears back. Into the vets room, as he prepares his the needle and the obligatory box of tissues for us. Well needed too.

Very quick, very quietly, she is at peace. You will never be forgotten.......

Very sad to hear that story Matrix and my thoughts are with you. On the bright side, you have the opportunity to enjoy life with a kitten and maybe another 18 years...

Tim......such a beautiful friend. Cry??? Gawdd I kinda cried and cried and cried and cried. Then I walked out the surgery with my little pom of 18 yrs, limp and wrapped up in a blanket to go home one last time. Gawwd I'm choking up now....really!

You gotta make a beautiful frame for puss's photo's. Happy to give you some great Jarrah floor boards in great nick. Mill'em and make a frame.

Keep all pusses toys too. Hang'em up. And collar.

I'm sad to hear of this great little friends passing. He looks like he was your boss.

the next few days will be hard,as you start to do things without your best mate being there.

She's now on the inside looking out.

So when those quite times come, and you reflect on your time together, and your eyes well up with tears, she's with you again mate, she will always be with you.

I am very sorry to hear about your loss. It is amazing how attached you become and how difficult it is to let go. Having lost 3 close friends over the past few years I know how hard it can be.

It is very difficult to think about a new friendship so soon but it really is the best approach to help deal with the loss. A new kitten will not replace Minkey however it will be the start of another friendship which will hopefully last another 18 years. I am sure that Minkey would like to see you enjoying the same companionship that she was able to provide.

May the fond memories of Minkey continue to live on.

Pets very quickly transend being pets and becomes a part of the family and their loss is felt just as hard. My sympathies to you and your family at this hard time.

My wife gave me a lilac burmese kitten as a wedding present & yesterday we celebrated our 10th anniversary. Milo is always with me in my shed & has her own little spot in a pile of oregon shavings. When the kids are rowdy (four of them under 9) or the wife is a little snippy (never my fault) I retreat to the shed & Milo follows. It's amazing how a little cat can make a grown man feel better about life - it's marvelous what a difference Milo makes! (had to say that)

Sorry for your heartache mate - it makes me appreciate the pilchards in aspic breath she breathes on me all the more after reading about your loss. (Milo's breath - not the wife's!)

Thanks lads for all of your incredibly compassionate replies. Much appreciated.

I wholeheartedly agree with everybody's kind remarks.

Almost every day since, I have to catch myself from saying "Wheres the Puss?" when I get home from work, or something will catch the corner of my eye that I think is her like a jumper inside the house or a shrub outside.

It would be nice if you were allowed one conversation or a vision with the departed in the afterlife, just to know that they are OK.

I just hope that she is not lonely or alone where ever she is. Thanks again.
