    Hi Everyone,

G'day FF and welcome to the best place to be.

Of course you have come to the right place. That is the very reason for our existence - to offer help, advice and ideas. Some of it is even useful and accurate.

    welcome

some questions to get you started

how big is the space the cabinet is to go into?
do you intend that the TV sit on top of the cabinet?
if so how big / heavy is the TV?
if you don't currently own a flat screen TV, is this project the impetis to get one?
does the TV need to be "hidden" when not in use?
how many DVDs do you need to store?
what other equipment needs to go in the cabinet – e.g. Foxtel tuner, VCR, Blue ray, hard disk, surround sound amplifier, etc?
will the bits and pieces be visible or behind doors?
room decor – are we looking at a wood grain finish or glass or laminate?

Thanks for the welcome guys!! Im sure its the right place and the questions in the last post are exactly what i need. Might start a new thread so you can have a laugh at the process of a newb building a dvd cabinet.

The project will just be storage for dvd's themselves so it shouldnt be too hard. Just wanted something a little more than a "box".

No mate, we may laugh along with you but we would not laugh at you. We have all been there and had to start somewhere and believe me, most of us are still learning. Start a new thread and you will find you will have more help than you will ever need. Welcome and good luck with your project my friend.
    Reality is no background music.
    Cheers John

let me encourage you to start a new thread
why don't you put it in General WW and call it Ford Fairlane's DVD cabinet

    refining the earlier questions ...

how big is the space the storage unit is to go into?

how many DVDs do you need/intend to store?

how high should the cabinet be?
some "standard" height options you may be familar with are
    coffee table about 400mm
end or sofa table about 600mm
buffet / side board about 900mm
    hall table about 1000mm
lingerie chest (essentially a tall narrow chest of drawers) about 1250–1450mm

room decor – are we looking at a wood grain finish or glass or laminate?
