Matching old NZ Kauri to new QLD Kauri floorboards 1890 home
Hello all, I have just purchased a 1890 Victorian home that has original NZ kauri flooring. A lot of it has been termite damaged and we are looking to replace. I have been ringing all over the country side for recycled old NZ kauri with one company for $38.5 per lm. We are very budget focused due to extensive white ant damage and have found some QLD 152x21 Kauri for a better price. My question is, can I mix the two different Kauri together? Does anyone know what the main characteristics are between NZ & QLD kauri? Thanks in advance for your knowledge and wisdom gang!

They are both of Agathis. QLD Kauri being Robusta and NZ Kauri being Australis. They are both known by many other names, usually related to their respective geographic origin.
The physical differences between the two timbers are minor. NZ kauri is more durable, harder (3.3kn Junker) and heavier(560kg/m3 Dry.)
QLD Kauri hardness (2.3kn Junker) weight (480kg/m3 Dry.)
There is also Indonesian Kauri, which has become the "replacement" in the market these days. IMHO not in the same league.
QLD and NZ Kauri are often used together or interchanged. For a floor NZ would be my preference.
