The brilliant thing is how many problems you solve by thinking something through. It's part of what i love about a project - visualising it in advance.

I'm installing a 7640 x 4040 single gable shed roof, mostly so far thanks to tips on this site. So after all my research this is my plan of attack for the day. You'll notice there are some gaps still...

1. Install roof trusses: I will premark the positions of roof trusses on the top plates. Attach to top plates using four right-angled nail plates (correct name?) on each truss. I will only use two on the trusses on the ends. Are the nailplates sufficient or should i also screw into the top plates?
2. Install battens: Three on each side. I will put all the roof trusses together before they go up and mark the position for the battens. I have a 'strip' of rightangled-nail-plate that was supplied by the roof truss folk - so cut this and use just on the downward side. Is that sufficient or do i need to screw them down?
Question - I think the colorbond ridge cap must later screw into the top batten? In which case position for the top batten will be set by the width of the ridge cap? Lowest batten - any set distance from guttering?
3. Install guttering: In advance i'll drill the holes for downpipes and install the downpipe-holder-thingy. I will attach & silicone the ends. Do they need pop-rivets or is silicone ok?
Gutter drops by 2mm for every metre. Roof length is 7.75 metres, so 15.5mm lower. Use stringline & spirit level. Attach the gutter straps and clip in the guttering.
4. Foil-lined insulation: Roll the foil-lined insulation, foil down, from top. Should be cut before it goes up. Someone suggested foil should overlap gutter to get rid of moisture, but to cut off the glasswool at the end. I don't know what you attach it with. Presumably the roofing screws will be sufficient?
5. Install colorbond sheets: Predrill holes with all the sheets piled on top of eachother. I won't predrill the last sheet on the end because it will overlap a little more. Sheets should overlap the gutter by 50mm. Make sure it's square.
The roof is sideways to the weather so it doesn't matter which end i start, but i'm thinking that on the weather side, I should bend the colorbond up in each valley - the part that will be under the ridge cap.
6. Install ridge cap: I'm confused & can't find much online. I'm assuming this screws into top batten. I don't really understand how to seal the ends. If it goes on last you have to walk on the roof to get to it. My ridge capping is in two pieces so i could put half on when i'm half finished the roof.
