(In ft on thewords 'over' ad 'lazy' it did it onthis forum- and the spces on this comment)

Of course I goback and correct thwors but the WW Forum is he only plae thatthis happens to me.

There is a simple solution to most of these little annoyances, don't use IE as your browser for this forum.

For some reason the forum software, vBulletin, and the Microsoft Internet Explorer don't like each other. This has been reported time and again and shows up in all sorts of "gotchas".

As we can't change the software that this forum runs on, the best solution is to use another browser. Most people use either Firefox or Chrome. I like Firefox mainly for the numerous very useful add-ons it has.

That would be more of a get vbulletin to fix their software instead of shipping bad software.
They should test it, and telling people to change (and I know you only recommended it) is not really an answer.

The actual answer is that Microsoft should produce a standards-compliant web browser, rather than doing things that require application developers to specially code for IE's quirks. (One of the reasons IE has a 'compatibility view' option is so that you can use sites that were coded to accommodate quirks of IE 9 (and earlier).

IE is still ok for downloading other browsers, though.

What version of explorer are you guys using? Also, do you recall when it first started happening?

Lastly, do you run any toolbar or browser addons? some of these are dodgey, try disabling them and see if the problem persists.

Edit: I tested explorer 11 (windows 7) and its very slow to load the editor, also noticed I couldn't highlight text or use the editor buttons. There are def some problems, will see what i can do to resolve it.

Thanks Steve. IE 11 on Win 7 and 8. It probably started 2-3 weeks ago, although assumed it was just me until Carry posted about it. No IE addons.

Yep, still here CP! The last 18 months have been a roller coaster so I haven't been on here too much. We now have a 6 week old boy Nicholas, who is rightly taking up our time, so some wooden toys are on their way from the shed soon.

    Hi there

It looks like we can't force IE 11 to run in compatibility mode like we can with older versions, wasn't there an update for IE pushed out a few weeks ago?. maybe test adding WWF to the compatibility view/mode

Go to settings > compatibility view

    Then add https://www.woodworkforums.com

If that helps let me know, it resolved the editor issues for me.

Two days ago I was getting the same thing with my typing, and I'm using Firefox. This was happening on the forum for at least a couple of hours, but I thought it was my keyboard (I had spilled coffee into it a month ago but it slowly recovered - no sugar fortunately).

I was starting to get "a little frustrated". Then I went to sending some emails and suddenly it was all good again. I didn't know what the hell was going on.

Later, I came back to the forum and it was ok again, so how the hell do you explain that one?!

If you don't use the advanced editor and instead use basic or the "source edit" mode then you should be ok as you'll be typing inside a native <textarea> form control rather than a fancy editable DIV with JavaScript event handling. It does mean you won't be able to see your text as it might appear in the post, but it'll work (I'm pretty sure).

Nathanael, everything is ok now - it was just that period for about two hours. I just checked the time of the post that gave me the most grief (and man that was a lot of grief- I was sitting here slowly pounding the keys like a mortise chisel but that didn't help either ) and it was 13th Feb at 9.50am. As I recall that was when Steven was doing a whole bunch of data transferring for the new like/thank function.

What threw me right off was the keyboard coffee incident because I did have great difficulties with "sticky keys" for some days. It occurred to me that it was really weird that it would suddenly regress to being worse than it ever was, but I had no other explanation. I mean, seriously, I was about to go and buy a new keyboard - so much so that my partner returned from shopping with a business card from an IT shop.

    Hello Steven,

I just added this site to the compatibility view settings in IE, and by using this post as a test, it looks to have done the trick.

    Thanks for the tip.

    Nathan.
