Why are Art Deco Cocktail cabinets the shape they are??
Well, obviously for watching the best snow fall in some years. Why else?

Ok, two trains of thought here. One, snow! I know it's cold down here as well, but what on earth! Two, I'm a dog person and all I can see is a target range going on here (sorry).
What sort of timber is the Cocktail cabinet?-Scott

I don't know what timber Scott. It's veneered, and may not be Aussie timber (don't know any history of the piece).
Lots of snow across NSW this morning. It's been snowing for at least 5 hours now, at about the same rate.
Edit: There's about 4 inches on the ground.

That's unheard of. Would make the area stunning to look at, I love that area, have spent many a night around there on holidays. I'm envious of the scenery but doubt I'd be happy about the cold. Just had a look at weather zone for Katoomba - -0.5c More to come this afternoon. Rug up mate!

Any cats? Hell no. Had 3 until recently. Still have 2.
Art Deco display cabinets? Hmm wouldn't mind one or two. I'm partial to Art Deco, but think I might just custom build something.
Hand planes? Yes but don't tell my wife
Snow? No. I don't think it has ever snowed here. We just get gale force winds and dust from the mines.
I used to get an occasional snow storm when I lived in Vic but even then few and far between. Those were the droids I was looking for.

Snow?
Brett
We get snow up this way, but mainly blows in from the the cities in the East. You have to be very careful as the police just don't understand .
On the subject of your cabinet, that's a rather nice one with what looks like an interesting lapidary display. I don't have anything like that: Art Deco cabinets or rocks, except those in my head.
I am aware of a lot of curvature in Art Deco design including curved glass in cabinets as well as in the buildings of the era. It probably represented the first modern furniture and the breakaway from traditional design. It was the start of mass production also.
I think you may be in for a cold night down there. It is not that flash up here either. Six degrees last night with sleet forecast for tonight in the Granite Belt.
Stay warm.

Having just seen a news flash I would like to modify my earlier comments and suggest you are in for a cold night without power .
Sounds like an ideal opportunity to cuddle up under about three continental quilts . I was going to be facetious and point out that the QLD end of the electricity grid was doing it's share, but the unit I'm on is off-line with a tube leak so I won't go there. Nevertheless, I will be at work probably shivering along with the rest of the eastern seaboard.

Hmmm, not so sure about that now Paul. Clear blue sky, and about 10 degrees at 7 pm ESDT. It appears to have passed through, but who knows, there could be a second wave.
We did lose power for about 30 minutes in the early arvo, and there were a few shaky times before that.
