    Default inbox limit

With regard to the private message limit, I understand that it is there to avoid spambots registering and spamming people or something to that effect, but maybe having logic that allows regular visitors that have been registered for some time without having a huge post count to also have the limit lifted would be nice

I visit 3-5 times a week to read mostly and have done so for nearly 7 months but still have a 5 post inbox limit which is becoming frustrating. I don't really want to resort to posting pointless posts just to get my post count up but I see little alternative at the moment.

    regards,
    Eamon

Why not? Others do. Besides it's called communicating.

If you never post anything why do you need a large message limit?
(Hint: Reply to my post and I'll ask another question. We'll have your post count up in no time )

I know it's pointless but I've advertised on market place and am a new user, so need to make a few posts to up my inbox. Currently I get one message per inbox, and I can't even reply to it and then delete it. So here's a start, hoping for bigger and better (inboxes)

    1 is a bit of a struggle isn't it.

I, too, recently joined, and one of the first things I did was make a purchase from the marketplace, and was amused to see how little storage you get as a new user, especially when you're (hopefully) trying to get busy networking!

I don't see how limiting how many messages you can RECEIVE cuts down on spambot attacks.

Oh well, back to patiently waiting till I can get 2 messages at once!

We cannot separate the receives and sends so in order to limit the amount that can be sent by spammers we have to also limit the receives.

    Make sense?

But you can choose not to save the sent message in sent items, so that is very easy to circumvent.

Yep, I knew it would have been a "feature" of the forum software, and I'm fine with that. (I'm allowed a whopping 5 now anyway)

And hey, working in IT, its way less intrusive than most of the "features" i discover on a daily basis.

Is a new member also restricted on the size of their threads that they can start (ie. photo content/size)?

Yes new members are restricted to threads they post. All threads by new members must be long, interesting and contain plenty of photos. The photos may or may not be related to the contained text. We just like photos. Alternatively they can contain a particularly gnarly problem that we can attempt to solve and make ourselves feel useful. Especially if we actually solve it
So come on all you newbies. Get posting. Build that post count

I also regularly visit the forum regularly and usually to read and learn. If I have a question or when I feel I've learnt enough to offer my opinion, then I'll post. But having just gone through the process of buying something from another member off the forum classifieds, complete with full inbox, non received messages, deleted messages etc I guess I'll be making a few pointless posts like this one as well to try and crawl up the membership ladder

I too have found this very frustrating. I have been a member for years but my previous posts have not been recognised.

earlier today I was allowed 5 messages, now for some reason it is back to one!
