What do wives know?
We have had a problem with termites in a rental property we were about to sell. Luckily they were caught in time and no structural damage was done. Had to have the headbord abve the window replaced, as this is where the ( very small) nest was,
Friendly builder we have used before did the relining of the two walls, local Carpet Court people put in new carpet and previously used painter did the painting> All done in three days and no competative quotes obtained. See, the wife did all this.
Termite experts tell us to remove Golden Cane palms, and have a trench dug on two side of the house not surrounde by concrete so that we can have a chemical barrier installed.
I set out to look for someone with an excavator to do the job. Now the point is to get this done quickly so as to circumvent any possible further strife. I ring around and can only find two operators who either answer the phone or are prepared to quote. I settle on an operator who can do the job tomorrow at $100p/h plus GST. He qouted 1 hr. travelling and a minimum of 2hrs work. So $330 all up as a minimum.
Her indoors doesn't think this is right!! I tell her that I know these are basically the figures anyone will quote. "No! That's not right" so we trapse over to see a friend in the trucking game who will know better and straighten me out.
Ha! Well, to cut a long story short I was right and she was wrrong!!!
What pains me is the fact that her indoors knows I am in touch with this sort of info and so I should be believed. . I am also narked by the fact that there is one set of rules for SWMBO and one for me.
Well, that's my spleen vented for the week!!

A few days before we were due to be in Kobe for the big earthquake SWMBO asked me to delay our visit to kobe by one day because she wanted to go to an an antique clothing market. After some reluctance I bowed to her wishes and we escaped the earthquake. The Kobe hotel we had booked to stay in was pancaked! Now SWMBO can go shopping whenever she likes.

unfortunately this is when years of mates rates or DIY has covered real costs. Yet they forget the years of saying to you "You should have charged them at the going rate"
How do I know ? Years of servicing the family cars at cost of parts only, then came the time I could no longer .1st bill on the Landcruiser $600 for a full complete service.
We've never paid that before Nope thats right we never paid the hourly rate of $60 plus parts at their cost price.

Well, even though you were right on this one, I think they do know a lot as well. The problem is they don't know when to admit that they don't know.

The first rule in Solicitors School is NEVER commit anything to paper!!!!!!!!!
You will have to be very sure she will never read this thread or your life will be mush.
My wife told me today to leave the back door shut. I told her I left it open to let the cats go in and out. She says that they will bring snakes into the house if the door is open!!!
How many snakes are about in temperatures of about 10 degrees?
Can't live with them....Can't live with out themJust do it!
Kind regards Rod
