Stain for grey ironbark
Hi all - have just made a table top from recycled grey ironbark.
1/ Is it best to put a light stain through it as all the boards don't match color wise - or leave it as is a just put a clear laquer on it?
2/Also got some old bolt holes to fill - what is the best way to do this. Thank you.

Ironbark table finish
Wouldn’t it be best to use a clear to actually highlight the actual colour variations? Even if you put a stain on, it will not even it up completely unless you paint it....and that would be a real shame.
One option would be to use the Natural oil sealer (Livos). It is penetrating oil which means you can spot repair or recoat if or when necessary. It is also certified food safe.
If you end up using such an oil, don’s sand the first sand too finely to allow the oils to actually penetrate. Too fine a sand glazes the pores.
Re the holes, why not highlight with black putty to show off the imperfections?Livos Australia
