    Default Restoring a Parker table

Hi, I'm not sure if this belongs in Restoration or Finishing... so I apologise in advance if it's in the wrong spot.

I have recently purchased a 1970s Parker dining table made of solid teak. The previous owner used estapol on the table top and there are some brush marks as well as some drip marks in the finish.

I'd like to completely remove the estapol and restore it to its original look - the estapol really lightened the colour of the table as the extendable leaves of the table were untouched and are much darker and more beautiful.

I have been reading many threads on the forum and various other sites, and so far it seems that I could use a paint stripper to remove the estapol, then use 0000 steel wool and metho and then something like Danish Oil or Scandinavian oil.

Am I heading in the right direction? Can anyone offer any other ideas or opinions on the best way to go about this?

I've attached two photos - the first shows you the kind of cloudy, oily finish from the estapol in the light and the second shows the difference between the centre piece and a leaf that has been untouched by estapol.

    Thank you!
    Carrie.
