Casting Suppliers
Hi,
Does anyone know of Australian suppliers of casting kits? I found these blokes from the UK:
CES - Angle Plate Castings
and there's the bloke in the US who makes kits for Southbend enthusiasts but I don't know of any in Australia. I guess there must be some as the Tafe's and schools would have used them for their teaching projects etc.
Ben.

Casting Suppliers
Gd'day Ben, I have seen the following Oz suppliers of casting kits; Minitech.com.au for some engine kits, hobbymechanics.com.au for some tools, mesupplies.com.au for casting range similar to CES. No experience with any of them, and I have first castings (for me) on order at present from overseas suppliers in Britain and the US. Interested in local supply though.Regards, Roger

I can get castings done but frankly it's not worth the effort to do it for anyone other than myself. The cost in Australia is 2X to 3X at a guess what those prices are. I'm prepared to pay the local rate but I'm totally unprepared to listen to people whining about how expensive it is and how they can get it cheaper somewhere else.
Also first you have to make the patterns. I've made patterns for 2 different sized fixed angle plates, a 16" long tilting angle plate, 2 12" face plates (one thick enough to mill T slots in it), back plates etc etc and recently 2 different sized parallel flange straight edges now awaiting machining. Contemplating a pattern for a big precision angle square like Josh machined from a tractor weight but the round tuit hasn't matured for that one as yet.
So it can be done locally but you need to cultivate a foundry, pay in advance and make it as simple as possible for them because frankly jobs like these are not paying propositions for them.
