Default what do I put on a new beech window to protect it?

We just put in a new beech window in the kitchen. We put a stain on it that just flaked off and didn't sink in. The wood is really dense so does anyone have any ideas on what we can use to seal the wood? The4 stain looked dreadful so we stripped it all off inside, left it on outside. What can we use to do both in and out?
By the way, the kitchen is looking absolutely terrific! It'll be done in a month or so, finally!
    Thanks

wow a beech window...... I've never heard of that but I guess its fair enough. It may make sense to use an exterior decking stain, which has some colour in it.

Sorry I cant offer more help
