Window/Sliding Door Replacement.
Hi All,
I have a double brick ex-govie house in Canberra that I am slowly fixing up. I have a large window that I want to remove and replace with a sliding door (out to the new pergola!). The gap is around the 1800x 2300 mark. I have been thinking of building a timber sliding door myself rather than paying out the big ones to have a aluminum one made up. All the windows on the house are timber and I have been fixing/rebuilding those as a major project. The sliding door would be painted white when finished so I was thinking of using pine.
So, has anyone done something like this themselves and can give me some pointers on what to look out for/not do?
Is pine suitable for this type of job or do I need to use something harder because of the function of the door?
I have a table saw and router table as well as a good power saw. Can anyone suggest anything else I would need to make the door? I have a compresor and was planning on using a jack hammer to get through the brick work.
Hope that you can give me some feedback input on this one.
Cheers,
Grim.
