Defective Wixley Digital Saw Fence
G'day,
I'm not bagging the thing, it's beaut, I love it, but I've hit a snag.
My Wixey Digital saw Fence has been playing funny fellas over the last couple of days.
Zero the readout against the blade, set fence and it goes haywire, check the detructions which reads, "Eratic or frozen display - Internal error - remove battery wait 1 minute and replace" So I've done that a few times, even put in a brand spanking new battery. And I get the same deal.
Today I went to use again, worked okay then it threw a wobbly, so I went to take off the cover and pull the battery out. And a bit fell out.
Anyway it's this little thing a small tiny thing, that metal bit, the whatyercallit thing, goes somewhere I suppose as a contact for the battery. ButI've got no idea where, what or how. Can anyone shed some light on it for me and how and what to do to fix?

Went up the shed and checked my angle gauge, and couldn't find a bit that looked like that.
BUT! bsrlee has just done a mod on the battery side of one of these and he may be able to identify the where/and whyLast edited by watson; 4th May 2008 at 10:22 PM. Reason: spelling

It looks like the contact that makes (uh) contact with the side of the cell.
Hang on - I still have one of these in it's box - will go have a look....."Clear, Ease Springs"

Yep - it is definitely the negative pole connector for the cell.
The little flat portion in the middle seems to hook under the green circuit board, but I don't know what is under there that it touches.
On mine, if the positive connector points to 12 o'clock, the negative connector fits under the circuit board at 4 o'clock."Clear, Ease Springs"

NFI sorry. These things are not too complex, and often not even soldered in (obviously in this case) Try hooking it under, and seeing if it magically starts working again!!

Thanks Stuart. I'll shove it in somewhere and see what gives.

And I've got no idea how I got them so big, normally they're so small.

G'day,
I had a bit of a prod and a poke this arvo and tried the negative pole connector (as named by Stuart) in different places. A few times it disappeared and fell in places that I needed to get the tweezers out, and then I found the spot.
It just tucks up in where I've marked in red. Next time when it falls out I'll know where it goes. Mightn't be a bad idea if it were soldered in on the assembly line.
So I'm a happy camper again and can continue nudging the fence until I get spot on the mm. Could always do it with a steel ruler like I used to, but the d/readout is quick and easy.
Thanks MichaelP and NCArcher for your replies.

Looks pretty much spot on to where I suggested - with the positive point at 12 o'clock, the negative centres around 4 o'clock.
Glad it worked out for you!"Clear, Ease Springs"
