Default Fixing old wood cupboard - make sturdy.

The shelves inside the cupboard aren't sturdy, they bend in the middle if you pull on it. They are only resting on the side walls.

They are made of chipboard (I think) as is the door frame. If you knock (with little force) the door frame, or pull it, it bends. The door frame is not attached to the shelves.

The sides and back are brick wall (of the house).

Should I try and make the shelves more sturdy. Or rip out the whole cupboard and get a specialist to make a whole new one? Would it cost much? Can a new one be made similar to this, but strong and sturdy, with the back and sides still as just the brick walls.

If I were to just make the shelves more sturdy, how should I go about it?

    Thanks.

Stiffening shelves is a pretty easy exercise.

You can either put a stiffener across the middle of a shelf, or one each at front and back.

Basically, screw-n-glue a strip of wood on edge to the bottom of the shelf.

BTW, your pics didn't come through for me, so I can't be any more specific.

    Cheers,
    Andrew
