A farmer and his wife had a very smart son. He worked really hard at school, passed his final exams and came out dux of the school.

His application to a famous university was accepted and he enrolled at the start of the new academic year. This was the first time he had ever been away from home and he was soon caught up in the novelty and excitement of university life. Like a lot of young men in this situation, he decided to grow a beard to tell the world he was now an intellectual and a rebel. He was very proud of his beard. He had a photo taken and sent it home to his Mum and Dad, with a message for them written on the back:

“How do you like my beard? Don’t you think I look like a count?”

He received a very brief, terse reply:

“What is it with you? Twelve years of schooling, admission to one of the best universities in the land and still you can’t spell!”
