Charity auction of a beautiful pen.
We have up for auction the most beautiful pen made by Forum member Ironwood.
He was inspired by Mapleman's generosity in the other auction running at the moment to raise funds for DaveTTC whose brother, Timothy, had terminal cancer and has indeed passed away during the currency of the other auction.
The full story if you are unaware of the situation is told in this long, but very moving thread
https://www.woodworkforums.com/showth...191011&page=10
The short version is that Dave finds himself in Sydney organising his brother's affairs, but nowhere to stay. Doug3030 kicked the donations away and since then many others (around twenty by my count) have stepped up to donate so that Dave can stay in a motel or other accomodation while he attends to Timothy's affairs and makes provisions for the twin nephew and neice.
I hope you will enter this auction with the same spirit Forum members have shown in Mapleman's auction. In fact I don't think that will be hard as this is a premium product. It would be a perfect gift for a birthday. We all know people who have almost everything. Well this is just perfect for those people and with half the year gone Xmas is not too far away either. Of course you might just want to keep it for yourself.
This is the description Ironwood supplied to me:
This is a chrome plated ballpoint pen which extends and retracts the Parker refill by twisting the finial. The barrel is turned from a piece of figured Mackay Cedar ( Red Sirus ) finished with a durable high gloss CA finish.
The finial features the Southern Cross, and the centerband features Wattle Blossoms, giving this stylish pen an Australian flavour.
The winner is to pay the money direct into DaveTTC's account (details of which I will supply) and Ironwood will post the pen to the winner at his own expense.
Thank you Ironwood and thank you Forum members. I am looking forward to an exciting auction. Please bear in mind I am merely the facilitator in this auction.
I have set up the auction so that bids are automatically accepted so there is all the fun of a true auction. One final comment is that this auction at the moment will run for 14 days, which really is too long for our purposes. If I can reduce the duration to a week, I will. The point of mentioning this is to advise you not to delay getting your bids in. However, if the auction is to end after one week I will be make it clear in a separate post.
Good luck to all of you.

Ok, we are up and running. Thanks Pac man. Bids go up in $5 increments.
Oh yes. Ironwood PM'd me a moment ago to say that his free postage is good for anywhere in the world. This could be Australia's latest export .

Auction to close Sunday 21 at 2100hrs
I have worked out how to shorten the auction. I just close it .
I will do this on Sunday 21 June at 2100hrs providing nobody has bid in the previous three hours. If somebody has bid during that period I will review the auction in the same way the following day and so on.
Thank you to the first two bidders. I think this exquisite pen is a real bargain at this price, but our aim is to raise funds.

This is not a charity auction this is a help a great friend of the forum auction in a time of great need that is not charity by any stretch Dave gives so much to the forum even in these times of great personal emotional hardship and stress we can be uplifted by offering the only kind of help we can at this time so go for it.
Come on beat me for this beautiful pen I will be sending my bid no matter what the outcome.
regards Rod.

Rod
That is a wonderful gesture and it looks like Bob has stepped up and met that challenge.
Absolutely amazing: Both of you.
I will end the auction tonight as the important thing is to get funds to Dave while he needs them. However,I will review this at 2100hrs (9pm) in case there have been further bids.
So as the auctioneers say:
"Going......"
