CA Quick set filler good for structural?
Gday Guys
I bought the Pye Quick set filler and been very impressed.
So far I have mixed some shaving and done a good patch job on a tear out incident with the router.
Can this stuff be used for a strucural joint? Below is a leg of a dinning table that belongs to my Mother In Law.
It is MDF type material. The original dowls are still on the table. I will cut flush and drill them out.
This piece had split at the dowl holes 1/3 way down MDF.
I fixed that and glued some new dowls in with PVA.
Can the CA be used to re attach to table?
I could use an epoxy but 1 minute more that I have to spend in the "Dragon Cage" is one minute too long.
Besides that I have no real way to clamp or hold for the required time of Epoxy or PVA.

You might end up using a lot of superglue. Use epoxy, it'll give you more working time to get it deep into the crack, and you can use a bit of duct tape or insulation tape as a clamp; you don't need to force it together under pressure, just stop it from moving while the epoxy sets.

Remember that glue (any sort) wont really adhere to other glue - so the bond area needs to be bare timber, not timber covered in PVA or whatever.
(the only real exception is hide glue, which will stick to old hide glue very well. Epoxy will also stick to old epoxy, if it is mechanically roughened with something like 80 grit)
