Gidday mate
Hello from Lismore NSW, I have a blanket chest that my father acquired for me for my 18th Birthday - 3 decades ago. He bought it from an old lady in Tumbarumba and then it was over a hundred years old. It came out from Scotland with her family. It was painted with what I would call white house paint which I proceeded to remove with paint stripper. I repainted it with a Wattyl decorative finish - Gold base with blue streaked over the top with a rag. Many years later when I had left home my mother in her wisdom painted another coat of gold over the top. The time has come to give my chest the love and attention it deserves ! I have sanded the body of the box back to bare wood but the intricate parts are proving to be tricky. I have tried to identify the wood and am pretty sure that it is white oak. I will attach some photos when I work out how and maybe someone can help me identify the wood and the circa of the box. Thanks for reading , Cheers from 1 of 2macs
