Were any of our Brisbane members able to retrieve timber from the storm wreckage?

I note BCC was busy shifting tons of uprooted trees and broken branches. Guess most went into the chippers.

I note BCC was busy shifting tons of uprooted trees and broken branches. Guess most went into the chippers.

I managed to retrieve 3 ute loads of various species. What broke my heart though is that the local school had quit a number of trees go over including a silky oak that was about 600-700mm at chest height and a bunya pine that was more than 140 years old and greater than 1m at chest height. Other than a 6 foot section from the upper trunk of the bunya pine all this was hauled away and speaking to the guys loading it on the truck it was all going to be chipped.

The 6 foot section I saved is still about 450mm across so will produce some nice sized bowls which I will donate back to the school as the tree has some historical significance for the school. Apparently the tree was there before he school was built and the Cobb and Co coaches used to stop under it on their run out to Ipswich.

I spotted heaps of good timber on the motorbike the other day. Shame I dont have time to get the ute and go pick some up.

For those in Brisbane, there is still plenty of downed trees if you have the chance to get out there. I saw heaps of good stuff around the marooka area last Tuesday and I am sure if you track the storms worst path you will find some good timber.
