Decking Finish
Well I've finally finished our deck coationg off.
I went for Intergrain DWD in the end mainly because I got the stuff at cost price thru' our floor sander.
Looks good but I dont think I would use it again, as its impossible to repair the finish if you make a blue i.e. losing your wet edge. If I had my time again I would use Sikkens or even oil.
What I'm mainly interested in is what happens if it gets wet before it dries properly. We had a thunderstorm last night (didn't see it coming) and the edge decking timber got wet just after it was touch dry (about 1 to 1.5 hours after coating).
Subsequently, the coating went a milky colour but has since dried clear as if nothing had happened.
Should I be worried about loss of adhesion? After all that work it would be heartbreaking if the coating failed, not to mention the huge job of having to strip and re-coat.
Some reassurance would be good.

Sorry Bigdazza, I did see the storm coming, could see the lightning for about an hour before it hit and then I was out in it when it did hit
Anyway, I don't see why you couldn't do a light sand on the part that got wet then re-coat. Even if you aim to do this in autumn when it cools down a little.
I've not used Intergrain DWD, but I have seen Sikkens in use ona deck and was very, very impressed with the results. However, even that deck edge now needs sanding and recoating due to the very intense and direct sun on the edges. I think the deck has been up for nearly a year.
cheers

The problem with Intergrain is that you cant sand it because its an acrylic sytem.
It looks like it came thru the storm OK, visually there is nothing wrong with the rain affected area now that it has dried off, although time will tell if the coating has been compromised . I may just be paraniod.
I am chasing the holy grail of the maintenance free deck. My brother has Intergrain on his north facing verandah and it looks like new even after 3 years. Oil would have been so much easier though.
Cheers.

It must be deck time, I've just finished two days of staining mine. I did two coats with Cabots Merbau Decking Stain and am as high as a kite.
