Sending Tools in the Post

Hi everyone.

I am hoping to send some saws, chisels and planes from the UK to China. Does anyone have any experience of sending sharp woodworking tools by mail? I am worried that their sharpness may lead them to be deemed hazardous.

Any advice would be great.

Not overseas, but I have been on the receiving end for tools purchased elsewhere in Canada.
In every case, the wrapping on the sharp tool edge gradually wore through. Sometimes a little, some times a lot.
While I'd like to blame Canada Post & Storage, it was the vendor that wrapped the tool(s).

I've been saving a length of extremely poor quality garden hose out in my shed.
I think I'd use split lengths of that hose and duct tape. Perfect cover for a hand saw.

I have several bow saws, each has a hard plastic blade cover which is a PITA to install.
Come to think of it, a length of that hose, attached to a skinny stick, would be far better.

I haven't sent sharp tools overseas, but have received many overseas items by post, including chisels, spokeshaves etc, from China and Hong Kong. Shouldn't be a problem.
