Default Problem saving Threads / Files with Cute PDF

    Hi Neil,

For a long time now i have been saving Threads / Files as a PDF using "CUTE PDF" for the conversion.

I save these in appropriately named FOLDERS in MY DOCUMENTS for later perusal / printing. This system has worked well until now.

My problem is that only some of the File / Thread is now being saved, with some postings & replies being hit & miss, when i later want to view them.

    I am running Windows XP SP3 & IE 7.

I would appreciate any help you may be able to offer.

Many thanks for the help, information & advice at the Melbourne TWWS re. repairs & restoration of silky oak chairs. (Hide glue, Shellac, Wax). Enjoyed your demonstrations. Much
    appreciated.

I hope that you & many more smaller stall holders will be in Brisbane in May 2013. With the wide variety of activities that is WOODWORKING, it would be interesting to be able to sit in on a

greater number of different demonstrations. SO much to learn & enjoy

    Regards,

    Alan

Doesn't CutePDF save a print job as a .pdf file ?

It may be your default print options have been changed.

If someone really, really wants to keep the old IE interface (and some people do, believe it or not) they should try out Google Chrome Frame. Enabling it is a piece of cake. It'll only work on sites that have the call for it, and will fall back to pure IE (ugh) on other sites. It really does work very well, and it's quite funny to be using "IE7" that runs like the latest version of Chrome.

Only good on 32 bit Windows. Wont run on 64 bit.

Oh and one thing I've noticed here is that although it is suggested that people use other browsers, the download links for said browsers don't seem to be provided (not even in the forum's official notice up top). Non-techy types are often reluctant to change browsers, or somethimes don't even know what a browser is. They aren't going to go looking for one. You have to hold their hands a bit if you want progress (and anyone who knows anything about web development is desperate for progress here).

@Little Boxes: Please, do yourself (and all site admins) a favour. Try a decent browser. They're all free. They're all extremely easy to install. You can import your Favourites list to any of them with a couple of clicks. They will all offer better performance and security than IE7 (which really is terrible, even for its day).

1/ Firefox: "real English" (not Yankglish) for Windows version here.

Other languages and OS combinations are on this page: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html.

Do note the Firefox can be a bit of a performance hog on older XP boxes. It will run very well on 64 bit W7, but if your box is getting on a bit it may not have quite the grunt that Firefox prefers. It is a very good browser that provides a lot of customisation options (which is why I love it myself) but if you just want something simple it may not be the best for you.

2/ Google Chrome: "real English" (not Yankglish) version here.

This one may be best for you. It has a very simple interface and will run well on XP boxes. If you don't need a lot of options, try Chrome. The interface is different to IE, but is easy to find your way around. You can get various skins for it if you don't like the default. Other add-ons are also available.

3/ Safari is based on the same engine as Chrome, but honestly I wouldn't bother with Safari on a Windows box.

4/ Opera: this is a very good piece of kit, if you like the interface. Personally I don't like it much (too restrictive, and too much like IE) but some people do. In technical terms, Opera is excellent and will give very good performance. There are various skins and add-ons available.

For your needs I'd suggest trying Chrome and Opera. Chrome if you like the simple interface. Opera if you want something that looks a bit more like IE, and provides more options.

But please, for the love of the internet, kill IE7.
