Default How do you get a Matt finish?

Hi I am using a satin oil varnish Liming White over a wood sculpture. There is still too much shine and I want a flat matt finish. Is there a powdered flattening agent that I can add to the varnish? Or rubbing the finish with a fine steel wool will cut back the shine?
    In anticipation, thanking you.

EEE Ueaut like Stuart sez is great, use some 0000 steel wool to apply the wax and you get a great finish like chippy sez.

I just finished a mantle peice with that method (shellac for the base not poly ) but it came out perfect. ( well almost perfect )

Tripoli Powder will dull it back nicely.

Don't use steel woolwith EEE-Ultra Shine as it is courser than the EEE and pretty much defeats the purpose.
