Maximum width for a light simple trailer

The maximum width for a light simple trailer (including its load) is 2.5 metres (excluding side marker lights and direction indicators and the bulge towards the bottom of the tyre). An additional 25 mm is allowed on each side of the vehicle for ropes, lashings, straps, chains, connectors and tensioning devices that are neither permanently nor rigidly fixed to the vehicle; or J-hooks (to secure stock crates or bins).

    Does that help?

Generally 8ft (2.4m) (same for cars and trucks, I think.) Over-width hauling usually requires a special permit as well as escort vehicles. Not entirely sure about the permit; might be an intermediate width sans permit. I don't think there's any variation among states; national bible gets limited modification by states.

In the UK it use to be seven feet, six inches for caravans so I guess the same thing applied to all trailers. That was legal limit of course.

Yep, just checked it out. Caravans and trailers in the UK maximum width is 2.3 meters (7ft 6in)
and 7 meters in length. think thats about 22ft.

All these numbers I was convinced that max trailer width was deliberately set an inch narrower than what you need

Yes and no, they do make more than a few "out of gauge" containers, ie ones that are 8'6" or 9' high rather than 8' and there's ones that are slightly longer and/or wider as well. It's a given that as soon as people agree on a standard and get a good system happening that someone will slip some other stuff in there just to make life difficult.

Thats only because tape measures come in metric and/ or imperial and they always forget which one they are working from
