One of my favourite things about old tools
They seemed to take far more pride in making tools that were visually appealing. Veritas are probably the best modern tools but damn are they ugly.
This isn't a woodworking tool but could easily find its way into becoming a small scribe... It's a sewing stiletto I found in the bottom of a tool chest I bought a month ago. It's at least a hundred years old. I find I'm enamoured by how well it was designed.
Hey stiletto, does that steel go all the way up LOL

Visual appealing, an functional is the only way too fly if you ask me.
Is it a Bone handle?
Cheers Matt.

Actually.......A sewing awl or sewing stiletto. Can be either and used primarily in the making of Broderie Anglais . I would like to claim full ownership of this information but, reluctantly, I have to defer to SWMBO, who happened to see the pic and responded as above when I asked what she thought it was.

Agreed, esp the pride in making.
In general the wider population seem to place different values on items in modern times, not so much in long term value, but more on the latest & greatest and "affordability" which are both cleverly manipulated marketing concepts these days.
I love looking at old woodworking texts for tool handle design inspiration.Mobyturns
