Sink Position , how much room to leave from lip edge to splash back?

Pretty much as the subject title. I understand the norm from bench edge is 60-80mm to sink lip edge, but on a 600mm wide benchtop, what is the normal or good distance to leave behind the sink edge and splash back?

Depends a lot on your particular configuration. Here are some of the variables that come to mind.

Sink type, top mount or under mount ? Or farmhouse maybe.
Tap type, mixer or individual?
Tap mounting, wall, bench or sink?


And sink size, if it’s a large sink the 60-80mm may limit what space you have at the back, particularly if the front gap is determined by the bench overhang and cabinet configuration underneath.

FWIW ours is 47mm to splashback. The front edge is 50mm to the turn in the Laminex top. Standard top mount stainless steel, dual bowl, central mixer mounted in the sink top

Sorry one of those times in my head I had given more details than I'd actually typed. Its the typical top mount stainless steel type, 480 by 1180mm dimensions to outer lip edges.
