    Post Yallow from Auckland

Been lurking on here for a while now. I am a woodturner, living on Auckland's North Shore.
Have always messed around with wood and really enjoy unlocking something beautiful from what appears to be rubbish wood.
    Say hi sometime, Cheers Ian

Thanks Rockinwood. I am based in Glenfield.
How do you find the timbers over there?
My last trip was to Turnfest and I came back with 30kg of Mallee burl. Way nicer than swamp kauri

Ian thorn: Welcome to the forum. You would be getting a better welcome if you started as new thread in this sub forum. Sort of hijacked TurnedByIan welcome, we live and learn.

Thanks all for the welcome. Hi Ian & Rumnut, Happy to see I dragged some more fellow Kiwi Lurkers out of the dark
    Christos, thanks, now worries here
Rockinwood, I was lucky enough to score Jarrah beam offcuts from a house renovation. Hard yes, but cuts very clean with sharp gouges.
Gotta say though that dry Pohutukawa can be just as hard.
Love the Rocking Horse, happy to hear it's been ridden hard and survived.
I've got two daughters that use my old reject bowls for baking mud pies in the garden. Gave some to the local Kindy for the kids and the staff refused to let the kids play with them.
They are now on the table as serving bowls LOL. Photo's on my website,Cheers Ian
