Hubby has 2 weeks off work in September and I'm trying to get my to do list in place ready for him. We want to build a deck out the back but I'm having trouble deciding on the height. There's currently a sliding door to nowhere that will provide access from the house but the under house access door is directly below it.

We had planned on having a ledger across the brickwork to attach the deck to house but that's obviously not doable with the under house door there. We had also discussed (I discussed, hubby listened) having a couple of steps down from the house to the deck to make it a bit easier to do the pergola but there's the issue of access to under the house.

If we do the deck to the height of the sliding door we can add access to underneath BUT it makes doing the pergola difficult because of the roofline.
