Jet JPS 10" or Laguna Fusion table saw
Hi all
I'm looking to upgrade my table saw to something in the ~ $1,000 - 1,500 range for general hobby and renovations. Top contender is Jet JPS 10 - well known brand, good reviews, good resale plus lighter and smallish (limited space). But also seeing rave reviews for new Laguna Fusion.
Frank T asked the same question a while back but got no replies. Anybody out there have any recommendations?

Freight cost
As I am in Gippsland, Victoria there is an added problem with the Fusion - getting it from Brisbane, as I believe Gregory Machinery is the only supplier.

I think the biggest problem with laguna is just getting one. I have been waiting 3 months for mine and have been told for the third time that it is going to be another month wait.

I've owned the JET JPS 10 for about 6 years, and based on what I saw of the Laguna Fusion at a recent WWW show I'd definitely go for that if possible.
The JET is OK, but frankly not as good as the name would suggest. Dust extraction performance in particular is dismal on the JPS 10. I note that the current version has had a few modifications/improvements since mine was built, in an attempt to correct some of the more obvious deficiencies.

Fusion has it
Thanks guys. looks like the Fusion wins hands down.
I rang Woodworking Warehouse and had very helpful chat with Ben who rated Fusion over the Jet but also suggested the Woodman SB12 as a good saw without all the bells and whistles.
I also rang Gregory Machinery in Qld who said the Fusion is out of stock but a new batch will be in soon. Surprisingly, Freight to Melb depot was only $140.

I have been quoted similar in the past.
Both dealers suggest most Laguna machinery sells while the items are in transit by sea. Seems they don't like to keep much stock or they otherwise can't keep up with the orders.
Regarding Ben's comment that the Jet isn't as good, Woodworking Warehouse (part of the Woodman Group - as is Greg Mach and others in NSW, ACT & WA) used to stock Jet prior to Carbatec becoming the exclusive dealer in Aus. He's a trustworthy guy but I'm also sure he'd rather you spend you hard earned with him.
Craig.

Be cautious with these estimations Rabbott. I ordered one in July from them and was told the same. It has now been 3 months, very little contact from them, it takes a few emails sent before they reply and you have to ring them to find out what is going on.
I would have loved to have bought a Laguna, but unfortunately when I receive below par service such as described above I can only think what their after sales service is like.
Good luck with it.

Hi Rabbot
That’s the same quote i got for freight to Melb "Freight depot pickup" which i also thought was good.
I received my Laguna platinum dovetail ver from Gregory machinery last week and wow what a machine.. very happy
I told my wife that this thing NEEDS to be in the lounge room not the shed. Its in the shed
I placed the order in early August and it arrived about a week and a half later then they expected.. Which i thing is very good all things considered.
I found the service to be very good, they were quick to email me when it arrived and where great to talk too.
After sales service has also been great, I had a problem with the lock of the fence "USER ERROR" . I sent them a couple photos, then spoke to them on the phone while they compared it to there floor model and we had it sorted out.
I also didn't receive a little adapter i had order and they popped one straight in the mail for me.
Over all it worked out great and i wouldn’t hesitate buying from them again

I collected my Laguna at the Sydney TWWWShow. It took me a little while to get around to assembling, due to an unrelated health scare.
I was impressed with the quality of construction and ease of assembly. There appeared to have a problem with the switch, and I contacted Gregory Machinery by phone. A replacement part was in my letterbox the next afternoon!
I have nothing but praise for Gregory Machinery and the product.
