fitting an old door
Hi there,
I am hoping to fit an old external door on a reno. Its a T&G job with a window and some nice trim. I've stripped many layers of paint off and most of it is hoop pine, but a strange assortment of silky, crows ash and kauri in the T&G! I like it!! It will be sitting under shelter from rain and sun, in a 3m breezeway, so I'm not expecting any problems with a clear finish.
My big problem though is the width, which measures 815mm tapering to 810mm. The existing door is around 820mm wide.
Should I pull the jams apart and pack them from behind, or should I go the other way and add a strip of timber to the door. Because of the taper, I could run it through the table saw to straighten it and add 25mm maybe?
What's the concensus here?
Cheers,
Andy
