    Default Hello from England

Hello from the South East of England (apparently the weather's best here).
I'm not actually a Pom: I was born in Scotland. (Believe me; there's a difference).
We emigrated to Australia in the late '60's, living in New Guinea, Katherine NT and Sydney.
I didn't have much say in the matter when we came back here, otherwise I'd probably still be in Australia.
    Never mind, eh?

I've stumbled across this forum twice now, looking for advice.
The first time it was on how to sharpen a gimlet, and I found a thread on that.

More recently, it's been advice on building a workbench, and I think I've come to the right place on that score too. (I still haven't read all of Groggy's workbench thread yet...)

Since I live only a couple of hundred yards away from the local flea market, I've collected a basic toolkit for what must amount to around £100.00 and as we've had a 8' x 12' garden house installed, I've decided to put at least half of it to good use.
Although I've had a career in the technical side of musical instrument manufacture, I haven't touched woodwork since I was at college, which is probably a familiar situation for many, eh?
I've cleaned up the tools, sharpened the ones that cut and then, after seeing Roy Underhill's Roubo workbench videos, decided on that style and bought myself some oak...

That's where I am at the moment.
I've started a thread on the workbench sub-forum where you can watch my progress, or otherwise...

Go easy fellas...a handy tip or two in between the jibes wouldn't go amiss!

    The Pom.

Welcome Pom! Once you start posting images, the advice will start flowing.
    .
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

    Regards, Woodwould.
