Bitter pill for Rudd
Extract from Tuesday's Courier Mail shows just how mean spirited and vicious Julia Gillard can be:
Bitter pill for K. Rudd
THE Prime Minister's choice of one to represent her at the Queen's Brisbane visit raised a few eyebrows.
She chose South Australian Labor senator and Right faction powerbroker Don Farrell, whose nickname in his home state is ``The Godfather''. He was instrumental in having Kevin Rudd ``whacked'' to make way for Julia Gillard. The man who knifed him, filling in for the woman who nicked his job, in the heart of his own electorate. A bitter pill for K-Rudd. No shame, no gain
Bear in mind, this guy was flown in from Adelaide. The Royal visit lasted only 4 hours in Queenslandregards,

What a load of rubbish, Rudd is in Perth at CHOGM playing centre stage, this is just your usual mindless press beat up. Sometimes to much is read into things I doubt this was little more than finding a suitable nodding head that wasn't required elsewhere.

I can't let this opportunity slip by without imparting my opinion. I think the Queen, as head of state, is becoming less and less relevant as the years go on. What a waste of time and taxes her visit is.

Reason for Queen's visit to Oz
The Queen and Prince Phillip came to Australia for HM to open the Commonwealth Head of State meeting in Perth. As the Commonwealth Head of State, she is likely to do this for as long as she is capable. The Royal visit has been in the news in WA for months and months. As an ABS with a HRL in the RAN my son is very busy delivering and setting up tents for all the different displays around the area plus he still has his storeman duties. Otherwise my son would probably be in the Middle East now so one more reason that I'm glad she is here....

hey widowmaker, the Queen is the Soverign of our Australian Monarchy. She is the boss! She is represented in her absence by the Governor General.
In the event that the republicans win, the GG role becomes that of a Presidentregards,

I have more respect for Julia Gillard as *boss* than the Queen and that's saying something. I don't want a notional head of state from another country, I want an "Australian" head of state, a system of Government which I can be proud of, not one that defers to some old woman from England. Australia is better than that.

Not the person, but the role - the titular Head of State. There won't be a G-G, but there will be a President

I still question how this country aims to be a republic with all the different states having their own government. They can not even agree with each other now, let alone if we did not have a figure head that lives the other side of the world. As far as I am concerned the republic movement is poo poo and not worth the cost it will take to have the name republic.
I fought under the Union Jack on our flag and intend to be buried under it. Leave things alone for goodness sake.
There is no way this country can be a republic, as no one can assure anyone that it will not be taken for a ride by the pollies for their own good and stuff the public.

Why would Australia want to be a republic. Man its made up with boat people and convicts. How could that set of riff raff run a country. No no far better to let mummy look after you and guide your future.
Perish the thought thast some home bred oaf could think well enough to be head of state, much better to have an 86 year old follower by a tree hugger.
Mind you the way things are going in the UK you might get a new class of boat people.
Thats probably going to be the new debate. Which state is going to build a palace for mummy when the UK has had enough.

We allready choose the GG ourselves anyway, there is absolutely no reason why becoming a republic should make any difference to our internal stability. We didn't become a republic because we didn't think we could trust our elected politiicians to pick a decent head of state. Instead we stuck with the old system that has our elected politicians pick our head of state (the Queens rep) what a bunch of simpletons we have become.

Hey cookie48, isn't the US of A a republic with a President, with 50 disparate states each with their own Government, ( not just 6).
Can I respectfully suggest that eventually we will become a Republic, probably once the current Queen dies could be seen as a good time. Unless people in Oz looking forward to being ruled by King Charles the Third. Be interesting to get Malcolm Turnbull's views, eh?regards,

Don't we? how often has our nomination been refused, we elect the parliament, they in turn choose a prime minister who on consultation puts forward a nomination. It is an official elected by the Australian people that chooses who will be our GG. That was the silliness of the referendum to change to a republic, we essentially didn't want our politicians to choose our head boy (or girl), so opted for the default position that we put our trust in one polly only.
