Why can't these people just get a caravan instead of inconveniencing other road user when they go on holiday?
Some people!
'House Ahead' not a road sign you see often.

I've seen about 10 houses being shifted in my life and I think that it is awesome, especially when they are very big.

I have a friend who bought this design house GRAND in 2006.
http://www.selectahomes.com.au/fourb...swarookagrand/
It has a normal style roof ( iron ) and it is the biggest house they can move in one piece on the highway.
They brought it 200+ Ks and we watched them put the house onto the block.
There was four steel pegs driven into the block which represented the corners of the house.
They had to drive onto the opposite empty block and reverse it in.
After going back and forwards about half a dozen times the guy in charge said that's it lets get it off the truck.
The driver got out of the cab and on walking back to the house picked up a stone and placed it on the corner of the house
When he dropped it, it fell smack bang on the corner peg.
He said to the boss " your getting better the older you get ".
needless to say we were very impressed.Cheers Fred
