timber floor coating rejection

Just viewed our newly finished Eastern states blackbutt plank on ply floor coated with polycure sealer then polythane high gloss then duropol semigloss with a flow additive and noticed all the butt joints,filled nail holes and areas of any boards with dry splits haven't been covered well.Neither the installer or sander had seen it before and on further enquiry it appears the coating has been rejected in these areas.The floor was apparently normal after the sealer and polythane was applied and only became a problem after the semigloss was applied.The timber supplier said he's had no similar problems from the same batch of wood.Does anyone know the potential cause in this case or more importantly the best way to improve the finish.Any help would be appreciated.

I am familiar with this group of products.

When you say "Polythane High Gloss" was this the Durapol High Gloss (polycure's 1045 or similar)

If not this will be a problem as it will be considered a mixed system.

Also, I believe it is ill advised to use additives in top coats in particular to sub dued gloss coatings as it can react with the matting agent. Also there's the problem of knowing how much was added if something goes wrong.

Let me know about the gloss coat and I'll look into it further.

A 2 pack poythane 2043 coat was put down, over the Fastaseal 3030, then the duropol 1012 topcoat was applied.I'm checking on the additive still.

That is an acceptable system and shouldn't have had any problems except as I mentioned with too much additve in the top coat.

I have this from the Data Sheet on Wet edge extender:

"Wet Edge Extender 3320 is suitable for use in Polycure single pack moisture curing (DURAPOL®), two pack polyurethanes (POLYTHANE®) and non yellowing (CRYSTAPOL®) finishes."

Therefor as I said not for subdued gloss products. I'd have another chat with the floor sander!

How did you go with the sander?

He resanded the floor and put a coat of durapol hi-gloss 60%and semi-gloss 40% over it.Less rejection but still a problem and new cobweb marks which weren't there before.Nothing much else can be done easily so we've moved in.Looks fine overall but not as good as usual or expected.

That's an unfortunate outcome. I'm sure aftera few weeks of living you won't notice the blemishes.
