Hi everyone, I'm new to this and very new to home renos.

I'm starting with re-painting a 2nd bedroom in a 1920s Qlder with VJ walls and ceilings. I can tell from the old paint that there have are a few old coats there, the bottom layer is a crappy dark olive green, and the next 2 coats are lemon, then cream. The paint is not old and flaky, but does show wear and tear and has been chipped and scraped away in parts to reveal the old layers. I want to re-paint the whole room to a clean off-white colour.

Just wondering what I need to do beforehand. Is it super-important to strip back the old paint, re-fill the grooves and sand before painting? Or can I get away with just a light sand over the top, undercoat then 2 finishing coats? What issues might I run into?

Thanks for any help you can give.
